How to Maintain a Generator

Whether you need emergency power to your home during a power outage or to provide power in area electricity is not available, generators come in hand in the most random of events.  Just like any machine you would work with, generators also need routine maintenance.  Here are 3 ways to stay ahead of the game when it comes to generator maintenance.

  • Generators should be serviced twice a year.  Choosing a date during the times you use the least would is the best decision.  Even if you have not used it in a while, it’s always good to have it checked.  Last thing you want is to be without power in a storm and have a non-working generator.
  • You should always store your generator in a dry area. Avoiding dust and dirt will ensure that the generator will work properly when you need it next.
  • Simple maintenance checks on battery, wires, spark plugs, bolts and fuel pumps can be time consuming but super efficient in keeping the life of the generator strong. It’s also a good rule of thumb to start your generator up every once in a while to make sure all is working properly.
